Why I Teach
I have a passion for both history and people.
My hope is that through teaching I would inspire my students to be culturally aware, responsible citizens of the world.

The summer before my freshmen year at UC San Diego, I went on a trip to rural China to teach English and help run a summer camp. During the four weeks that I spent there, I saw poor classroom conditions and a huge need for better teachers. Students would come up to me asking to practice and learn English because their teachers did not care about the students learning. Spending time with these students and seeing their eagerness to learn showed me that I enjoyed teaching. But the way that I was able to change their lives within a few short weeks gave me a desire to teach. I continued to teach and eventually became the President of the organization, and helped run summer schools for the next several years. The reason I want to teach is because I hope to encourage, inspire, and change the lives of each student that walks into my classroom.
My passion for history came much later than my passion for teaching. During the fall of 2012 and the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to travel Europe. Going to places such as Paris, Rome, Vatican City, London, and countless other cities and countries, I saw history come alive right in front of me. I saw how history affects the people's culture. Going to China every summer from 2008-2017, I am both fascinated and overwhelmed by Chinese history. And although I have much more to learn in the subject of history, my passion continues to drive me to be a better social science teacher.
I have taught 11th and 12th grade AP U.S. History and AP Government teacher at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter for 7 years. And have coached basketball, tennis, and badminton throughout my teaching career. Currently I am at Canyon Hills High School as a World History & P.E. teacher. Having coached badminton here since 2015 and tennis since 2021, I am glad to have established relationships with members of our community and staff at the school.
Looking forward to a great year!
